Another Tense Exchange on The View

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Gossip, Video,

Followers of are used to hearing a difference of political opinions on a daily basis.  But every once in a while, a particularly tense exchange will perk up our ears.

Check out the moment when Whoopi Goldberg becomes exasperated and rolls her eyes at co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.  (Who could blame her?)  Hasselbeck later returns her own courteous gesture when she insincerely listens to what Goldberg has to say.

Whoopi—Rosie, Version 2?

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows,

Whoopi Goldberg So, it was Whoopi Goldberg’s first day as co-host of The View—you would think she’d lay low with controversial discussions… um, I don’t know… until the second or third day? Perhaps in an attempt to spice up the conversation a la prior hostess Rosie O’Donnell, Goldberg weighed in on the Michael Vick dogfighting issue. She came to his defense, saying that, in the South, where Vick is from, dogfighting is commonplace. According to Goldberg, “It’s like cockfighting in Puerto Rico. There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country.” Now, while I understand this show is a platform for individual “views” (hence, the name), and it may be true that in the South this is not uncommon… I have to ask, isn’t there some shred of decency and common sense that might prevail over the need to fight dogs and kill them? I don’t think there’s much defense for anyone conducting this sort of business, and I have to question celebrities and professional athletes that have so much going for them and then do something stupid. Vick will be sentenced in December and has been suspended indefinitely by the National Football League.

‘The View’ To Announce Replacements

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Rumors,

The ViewFor months now, our view of The View has been constantly changing.  A long roster of guests have helped to help fill the seat once occupied by Star Jones Reynolds.  And occasionally, Whoopi Goldberg has sat in the first seat left cold by Rosie O’Donnell.

The guessing game should end next week when producers are expected to announce permanent replacements.  Frequent seat-warmer Sherri Shepherd is finally expected to move from contract to permanent status.  (As many times as she has spilled her life story to those ladies, I would be incredibly upset if she did not get the gig).  As for the other slot?  That has Whoopi’s name written all over it.  Apparently, this means all rumors of a possible gay counterpart will probably be squashed.

Unfortunately, ABC’s Human Resources Department will only be getting a quick break.  Their job recruitment services will again be on demand soon when goes on her maternity leave.

Comic Relief Makes a Comeback

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Cable, HBO, Cable/Satellite, News,

Comic Relief Remember how great Comic Relief used to be? They were wildly successful at raising money, yet somehow they stopped making new ones. Hard to believe that it’s been eight years since the last Comic Relief special. After the long hiatus, Comic Relief returns to HBO this fall—raising money for the Hurricane Katrina recovery. For those without HBO, their Time Warner “sibling” TBS will also air the Comic Relief 2006 concert live on Saturday, November 18th. The special is taking place in Las Vegas and it’s good to hear that the original hosts will be returning. Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal originally hosted Relief in 1986 and hosted the first eight concerts.

“Disasters like Katrina devastate the environment and cause suffering for all forms of life, both human and animal,” says Bob Zmuda, Comic Relief’s founder and president. “Comic Relief is determined to address these tragedies by benefiting everyone from the elderly to children and pets.” Look for live segments from New Orleans during the three hour show. The specifics of the performers have not yet been released.
